Goa Institute of Management, Sakhali, got a huge shot in the arm as a United Nations wing recently rated it among the four best in the world for imbibingsustainability conceptsinstudents.

At theUNprinciples for responsible management Education (UN-PRME) global forum held this week virtually from New York,GIMwasrecognisedfor its social impact andsustainabilityachievements. Only four of the 46 business schools from 21 countries that participated in the positive impact ranking (PIR) report achieved the top ranking.

The PIR is a rating conducted by students and for students. This is the second edition of the PIR report, where students worldwide assessed their business schools on how they perceive their positive impact in the world. PIR is the voice of students around the globe, and what is most satisfying for us is that our main stakeholders our students have acknowledged institute commitment towards sustainability, responsibility and impact, said Parulekar.

From AI monitoring to a paw squad, Dhristi to step up beach surveillance in Goa

Cordoning off risk-prone areas along beaches, deployment of (AI) systems to monitor risk-prone zones, increasing awareness about safe swimming practices are some of the measures that are being rolled out to enhance beach safety. A paw squad, trained dogs will also assist in lifesaving measures.

The state-appointed lifeguarding agency will start with closure of risk-prone stretches and Swim with Lifesavers initiative in phase I. It is also readying a paw squad, to aid lifesavers in rescue and beach safety operations.

Swim with Lifesavers was launched in 2021 to create awareness about safe swimming and offer tips. The idea, he said, was to also encourage enthusiasts to respect the sea. A 60-minute programme offers a guided swim session which is open to all. Goa: Parents body wants panel to formulate plan

The State Government has offered to fund the design and rollout of a unique app-based service for the taxi operators, which they have refused to accept. The taxi operators are also reluctant to install digital fare meters.

Goa-based biodiversity contests pique national, global interest

Goa-based youth organisation, Abhivyakti Panaji, recently organised a national-level competition to raise awareness aboutbiodiversityand ecological conservation. The competition was held over 45 days and it saw participation from individuals from 18 states and union territories.

The photographs, memes and posters related to biodiversity and ecological conservation, which were shared by Abhivyakti Panaji on its online platforms, have generatedinterestfrom over 20 countries across the globe.

The programme Rashtriy Yuva Jagruti, was organised for the fifth year in association with the Goa State Biodiversity Board (GSBB) from January 1 to February 19. It comprised competitions of photography and creating digital posters, reels, memes, monologues and micro tales.

Scientists to study magnetic anomalies in Indian Ocean

TheNational Centre for Polar and Ocean Research(NCPOR) has left on a 30-day expedition in theIndian Oceanto researchmagnetic anomalies. Scientists on the expedition aim to acquire geophysical and geological data from the central Indian Ocean.

The scientists will be making use of a magnetometer that will be towed along with the vessel to collect the data. This data will be analysed during the research expedition.

The scientists on board the deep-sea ocean research vessel (ORV) Sagar Kanya have been fully vaccinated and have gone through a series of medical tests before undertaking the month-long voyage, to ensure that there are no obstacles during the process of embarking and disembarking the vessel during port clearance.
The vessel is a multi-disciplinary research vessel which was built in the 1980s in collaboration with experts from Germany.

IIT-Bombayhas submitted its final draft report on the source appropriation study to pinpoint the cause ofair pollutioninVasco.The Goa state pollution control board (GSPCB) will deliberate on the findings towards the end of this month.The board’s member secretary said that the IIT’s report is being examined, that that a special meeting will be called in the last week of September to deliberate on it.

The IIT had been tasked with conducting a source appropriation study following allegations of coal pollution in the port town.
The first phase report stated that coal is not the only mineral behind Air Pollution in the town.

Startup failure gradually reducing in India; more awareness needed: STPI DG

Asserting that the rate of failure of startups in the country is slowly declining, Director General ofSoftware Technology Parksof India (STPI)Arvind Kumarsaid there is a need to create more awareness about what the government is doing to promote startups.

The STPI DG was in Goa to address theFuture Tech Leadership Forum Goa2023 on Saturday organised by the stakeholders in the state’s IT .

Kumar said there should be a subject on Entrepreneurship for students in 12th standard where the product cycle should be explained and they should be made job producers and not job seekers.
He said STPIs’ directors are going to various colleges and giving lectures to youngsters about startups and also how to get funds for that.
