Andhra Pradesh government buys more mobile medical units to bring medical services to doorstep

TheAndhra Pradeshgovernment is purchasing 539 new mobile medical units (MMUs), in addition to the existing 676, at a cost of Rs 89.72 crore to drive the family physician concept in Conjunction with the 1,145 primary Health centres (PHCs).

Till July last year, there was one MMU for every 2.27 mandals in the state, covering a Population of 1,30,136.

With the addition of 539 new vehicles, every mandal will have a mobile medical unit to cover a population of 56,213.

Each PHC has two doctors, both of whom will tour villages under their jurisdiction in turns, in the MMUs and render medical Services to villagers.

The government is also building village clinics with required to expand medicare services upto the grassroots level.

Besides the visiting doctors, the MLHPs andASHAworkers will render their services to the villagers.

This apart, the government recruited gynaecologists to cover 12 PHCs in a week and offer specialist services to Women patients.

Cybercrimes up in Vizag; 200 cases in 5 months

The number of cybercrime cases in city is on the rise despite the efforts by the Police to create awareness among the local residents. Over 200 cases have been reported between January and May this year. Over 70 per cent of the cases were related to financial crimes.

Police said the victims have lost their hard-earned to online fraudsters. Most of the victims are educated and working in the technology sector. The cybercrimes police station in Visakhapatnam registered at least 316 cases in 2021 in which fraudsters stole about 7.9 crore. The number of cybercrime cases in city shot up to 600 in 2022.

Andhra Pradesh: ‘59% found to have Covid antibodies in sero-survey’

The recentsero-surveyconducted by the Andhra Pradesh Health department in April has found that nearly 59% of those surveyed had developedantibodiesagainst Covid-19.
Of the 46,991Covid-19 samplesextracted from the general Population, 27,869 samples turned out to be positive for antibodies. According to experts, this can be corroborated by the fact that the state recorded a 25-30% case positivity rate for several days in the second wave.

The urban population was found to be more exposed to the disease than their rural counterparts. While the survey projected antibodies against the Sars-CoV-2 virus in about 62% urban males and 66% urban females, it was 56.1% in rural males and 57.6% in rural females.

The sero conversion rate in the three different vaccinated groups is over 77%. The officials conducted the survey on nearly 6,300 people who have already received two vaccine doses.
Altogether, 78.8% of the samples taken from rural females in West Godavari turned to be positive for the novel coronavirus. Similarly, 78.5% of the urban female study subjects were found to have developed antibodies against the disease in Chittoor district.

The earlier state-wide sero survey conducted by the AP health department, in two phases, found that about 20% of the 5.4 crore population of the state developed antibodies for the SARS-CoV-2, the Covid-19 causing virus.

Visakhapatnam’s Rushikonda beach gets Blue Flag certification

The Greater Visakhapatnam (GVMC) comissioner CM Saikanth Varma said that GVMC is trying to develop few more beaches in the city with international standards. He said the government has been striving hard to provide safety, facilities, and Environment protection measures for not only Vizagites but also to all the tourists.
It is recalled thatRushikonda Beachin Port City got the Blue Flag Beach certification after fulfilling 33 parameters, including proper sanitation, environment protection, safety, and other measures.

The commissioner said that Rushikonda is the only Blue Flag beach in the state and not only the administration but also visitors should keep this beach clean and safe.

Vizag to send medical oxygen to Maharashtra

AfterMadhya PradeshandMaharashtragovernments approached theMinistry of Railwaysfor transportation of liquidmedical oxygentankers by trains, it was decided to move some empty tankers toVizagfor loading of medical Oxygen tankers from here. The LMO would be transported by placing the tankers on flat wagons.

According to theRailwayofficials, a green corridor would be created for fast movement of oxygen express trains.Andhra Pradeshhas a medical oxygen production capacity of 200 metric tonnes a day. But distributors are currently placing indents for 60 to 70 metric tonnes. Andhra Pradesh has been supplying the medical oxygen to various other states, includingTelangana.

Due to restrictions of height of road over bridges and overhead equipment at certain locations, out of the various specifications of road tankers, the model of road tanker T 1618 with a height of 3320 mm was found feasible by the Railways to place it on flat wagons.

Nikarshan Sadan Dredging Museum In Visakhapatnam

The union minister for , Shipping & Waterways, and AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated Nikarshan Sadan Dredging Museum.

The Nikarshan Sadan Museum is made by Dredging Corporation of India, at the DCI campus in Visakhapatnam.

The museum displayed models of various sorts of dredgers, historical milestones, and vintage photos of this dredging behemoth from the Eastern Port of Vizag City.

Andhra University starts digitisation of palm-leaf manuscripts

Andhra Universityhas launched the digitisation process ofpalm-leafmanuscripts at its Dr VS Krishna Library on Monday. Speaking on this occasion, vice-chancellor Prof PVGD Prasad Reddy said the process will not only help in their preservation, but also in transferring the ocean of knowledge from thesemanuscriptsto the future generations. Andhra University selected an expert team for this initiative. We are also planning to make these manuscripts available for the public through Andhra University website, said Prof Reddy. According to the officials, the university has about 2,663 palm leaf manuscripts written in five languages.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy, Andhra University, organised a webinar on Caste census among BC communities in India: Strategies for inclusive development on Monday. Drone technology centre at Andhra University

Andhra Universityentered into a memorandum of understanding withRosys Virtual solutions Pvt Ltdon Monday to establish an innovation center for drone technologies (ICDT) on the campus. AU registrar Prof V Krishna Mohan andRosyschief technology officerSK Venkata Satishsigned on and exchanged the MoU documents in the presence of V-C Prof PVGD Prasad Reddy.

Prof Prasad Reddy said the ICDT will serve as a practical training and research centre at the university level, which will help produce professionals and help the aspirants explore drone-related opportunities through integration with design bureaus, and market.

Control rooms set up in north-coastal Andhra Pradesh

Energy secretary Srikant Nagulapalli is monitoring the states preparedness for facing thecyclonic storm Gulabthat has hit the north-coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, and has given instructions to theAPEPDCLto make arrangements in their respective districts.

The energy secretary held a review with CMD of APEPDCL K Santhosha Rao and asked officials of APEDPCL, Visakhapatnam to be on high alert for any kind of eventuality and take up restoration work in cases of damage topower . He directed the CMD to ensure foolproof arrangements are in place to restore power supply within a short period to areas affected by the cyclone.

The CMD said all required manpower and material have been kept ready to restore power supply in case of any damage. All engineers and staff working in Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam, and Vizianagram have been told to be on high alert in view of the cyclone, he said.
APEPDCL has set up control rooms in cyclone-prone areas innorth-coastal Andhra Pradesh. The officials said the cyclonic storm may affect 27 mandals in the region.

Andhra Pradesh plans to set up Mango collecting centers for farmers

To provide better prices to the farmers for their produce, the has planned to focus on collection centers for the horticultural farmers, especially the mango farmers. As part of it, the state government had planned to set up Mangoes Collection Centres (MCCs), where farmers can collect the produce and store there before selling it to traders.

Initially, mango farmers should take a recognition letter from the Horticultural Department and form a Society with 100 farmers. That center would get one MCC. Mango production of the district is around 3.07 lakh metric tonnes on Average per annum. Vizianagaram mangoes are famous and farmers are exporting the produce to Raipur, Berhampur, Kolkata, and Delhi. Most of the produce would export to Delhi through Kisan special trains.
