On the occasion of World Fisheries Day on November 21, 2021, the Department of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, recognised top-performing States for 2021-22 to recognise their achievements in the area and commitment to the sector’s Growth.

Andhra Pradesh sees decline in vehicle sales

While vehicle sales zoomed across the country in current financial year,Andhra Pradeshwitnessed an unprecedented decline in sales numbers in the first two quarters of 2022-23, especially in two-wheeler segment. The Growth rate of cars also dipped in AP contrary to other states resulting in overall decline in vehicle sales. AP is the only state in the country which recorded negative growth in vehicle sales.

Interestingly, the tax collections by transport department in the current fiscal have gone up by 40% in AP despite weak sales numbers. The two-wheeler sales have come down by 6.5% in the first two quarters of current fiscal when compared to the corresponding period of previous year. The car sales are the only respite to AP which grew by 8.3% but substantially lower than the national Average growth rate of 21%.

Recidivism (the tendency of a criminal to reoffend) in Andhra Pradesh accounts for 6.1% of cases among persons arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), placing the state second in southern India after Telangana in 2020, as per data from the latest NationalCrimeRecords Bureau (NCRB) report.

Under the category of special and local laws (SLL), Andhra Pradesh ranked first among southern states with 8% of recidivism.

NCRB data states 1,26,736 people, including 825 juveniles, were apprehended under IPC offences in Andhra Pradesh in 2020. Of the arrests, 1,18,258 adults were arrested for the first time, 885 adults had a record of previous conviction whereas 6,768 people were arrested but not convicted in the past.

Palnadu emerges as pulse capital of Andhra Pradesh

The perennially drought-hitPalnaduregion of Guntur district has emerged as capital for production of pulses in the state. The presence of over 50 dal (pulse) mills is helping a large number of local farmers to switch to pulse cultivation as it is giving them decent profits.
The farmers in the region usually are dependent on such as Cotton and chilli but are now slowly moving to cultivation of red gram and green gram.

The cultivation of pulses is saving Money for farmers. Growing cotton and chilli has become a gamble due to frequent fall in prices. The cultivation of chilli and cotton require massive Investment, pushing farmers into a debt trap whenever the crop gets damaged or prices dip in the market. Chilli and cotton prices are witnessing severe fluctuation every alternate year leaving farmers in distress.

According to sources, the dal mill Industry is making a turnover of over Rs 3,000 crore every year as the millers are exporting stocks to various states and overseas.

TheCentrehas nominated Andhra Pradesh as a member of the task force for National DigitalTourismMission. The task force has been formed by the ministry of tourism for augmentation of digitalization in the tourism sector and to enhance opportunities for tourism enterprises to expand their market reach, growth, operational efficiencies, and sharpen their competitive edge.

He saidNDTMwould be able to harness digitalization in tourism sector which will facilitate exchange of information and Services in the tourism sector spreading across national and state tourism organizations, tourism service providers, tourism destinations, products, experiences and tourists.

Rs 1,450 Crore Investment Through Establishment of Four Companies in AP: CM Jagan

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has said investments of a total of Rs 1,450 crore have been made by four companies in Andhra Pradesh, which would provide direct and indirect EMPLOYMENT to over 2,500 persons.

The CM inaugurated via online a Rs 100 crore worth edible oil refinery of the Godrej Agrovet Ltd at Chintalapudi in Eluru district and laid the foundation for the three other companies. He said, “I am glad that the MoUs signed at the global investors summit at Visakhapatnam have been translated into reality.”

Jagan Mohan Reddy also unveiled plaques of a bioethanol manufacturing unit, Kribhco Green Energy Pvt Ltd, that is investing Rs 610 crore and the ethanol manufacturing unit of the Viswa Samudra Bio Energy that would invest Rs 315 crore at Sarvepalli in Nellore district and of a soluble coffee manufacturing unit of the CCL Food and Beverages Ltd at Varadayi Palem Kuvvakolli in Tirupati district, costing Rs 400 crore.

Govardhan Reddy urged the management of Kribhco Green Energy and Viswa Samudra Bio Energy to ensure jobs for the local youth. He said the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Corporation had allocated 289.81 acres and 23.85 acres of land in the Sarvepalli Industrial Park in Venkatachalam mandal for Kribhco Ethanol and Viswa Samudra Ethanol projects, respectively.

Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has launched the YSR Bima scheme with new guidelines, where the authorities itself will directly pay the insurance amount to the household of the deceased to make the insurance claims easier.

In order to help 1.32 lakh households via the YSR Bima scheme, the State authorities allotted Rs 750 crores for the year 2021-22. In the last two years, the State authorities had spent Rs 1307 crore for YSR Bima.

AP gets Rs 10,460 crore from Centre as compensation towards revenue deficit

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddys efforts towards getting additional funds from the Union Government yielded results as the Centre released Rs 460.87 crore as compensation towards .

The funds were released in relation to the dues under the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.

The YSR Congress, while recalling the failure of the Chandrababu-led TD government to get prompt release of funds from the Centre, are claiming that CM Jagan Mohan Reddy succeeded in getting funds because he maintained healthy relations with the Centre.

The CM had held a series of meetings with PM Narendra Modi in recent times, when he pressed for release of the funds that were promised to the state at the time of bifurcation. Jagan Mohan Reddy had stressed that this financial aid would accelerate the overall development and welfare of the state and its people.

Mahendra Chandelia, assistant director at the ministry of finance, has directed the immediate release of Rs 10,460.87 crore under the ‘Special General Financial Assistance’ category, as part of the revenue deficit in the financial year 2014-15.

Central Ayurvedic body takes up study of Anandaiahs drug

TheCentral Council for ResearchinAyurvedicSciences (CCRAS) has launched a study to ascertain the efficacy of the controversial Krishnapatnam medicine formulated by Bonigi Anandaiah. The CCRAS has directed the NRS Government Ayurvedic College in Vijayawada and the Ayurvedic hospital in Tirupati to take comprehensive feedback from at least 500 patients who have consumed the preparation. Data of patients have been collected through Nellore district Police and some patients have been contacted for feedback. Teams from the Vijayawada college and Tirupati hospital will interact with the patients.

CCRAS has said it will complete its investigation into the drug in four stages. Analysis of the samples received from the state Ayush department has started and CCRAS is reported to have communicated that it would take at least four to five weeks for completing the comprehensive investigation.

WB country director lauds AP reforms in edu, health sectors
