National Press Day Commemorated On 16 November

Every year on November 16th, National Press Day is held to honour India’s free and responsible press.

Highlights:

The Press Council of India began working as a moral watchdog on this day, ensuring that the press maintains high standards and is neither influenced or threatened.

It also marks the establishment of the Press Council of India.

The First Press Commission was established in 1956 with the goal of forming a Press Council to preserve India’s press freedom.

The Press Council of India was created on July 4, 1966. It went into effect on November 16, 1966.

Govt Signs $61 Million Loan With ADB

The Asian (ADB) has agreed to lend $61 million to the Indian Govt. to enhance living conditions, stimulate new developments in Agartala.

Highlights:

A loan agreement was reached between India and the Asian Development Bank for the Agartala City After Urban Development Project.

This initiative is in line with the Smart City Mission’s objective of improving urban Infrastructure Services.

It will improve Agartala’s liveability by improving road connectivity, implementing flood-resilient measures, and enhancing the appeal of tourism attractions.

Through this project, the ADB hopes to catalyse synergies with smart city components that are being implemented in Agartala.

Worlds Largest Solar Power Park In Bhadla

The world’s largest solar power park is located in Rajasthan’s Bhadla Solar Park.

Highlights:

The solar park is located in Bhadla, Rajasthan, which is an arid and sandy Environment.

It covers a total of 14,000 acres.

The park contains a total of ten million solar panels. These solar panels contribute to a total capacity of 2245 MW of operating capacity.

Bhadla Solar Park will be the world’s largest solar park by 2020. It is located in Bhadla, Rajasthan’s Jodhpur district, and covers an area of 5,700 hectares.

The park has a total capacity of 2245 megawatts (MW). At Rs 2.44 per kilowatt-hour, it had received the lowest solar power bid in India.

It now has a total capacity of 2,245 MW, making it the world’s largest solar park, with a total of Rs 100 billion.

Highlights:

Akasa air was found by Rakesh Jhunjhunwala with ex-Jet Airways CEO Vinay Dube.

It is set to start operating in mid-2022 with 70 planes in the following 4 years.

These ULCC, Ultra Low-Cost Carrier Services airline, focuses on keeping operating costs lower than the typical budget airlines such as IndiGo and SpiceJet.

India to pilot 1000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)

Central Government has given its approval to invite the expression of interest for installation of pilot 1000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project.

This pilot project is the joint effort of Ministry of New & and Ministry of Power.

Both the ministries have been working on this in order to provide a road map for installation of energy storage system in India.

The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will be set in a bid to support the ambitious goal of achieving 450 GW renewable energy target by the Ministry of New & renewable energy by 2030.

International Day of Rural Women is Clebrated On 15 of Oct

the International Day of Rural Women is commemorated. The theme for the 2021 International Day for Rural Women is Rural women who cultivating food for all.

This day is dedicated to gender and the Empowerment of rural women.

It also acknowledges the importance of rural women, including indigenous women, in increasing agricultural and rural development, reducing rural POVERTY, and ensuring Food Security.

According to the report, if women are given equal opportunity, agricultural production can increase by 2.5 to 4%.

Which will reduce the number of persons suffering from Malnutrition from 12% to 17%

World Sight Day Observed On Oct 14

The second Thursday in October is designated as World Sight Day. And this year the day was observed on 14 October. It is the most important day in the eye Health calendar for advocacy and Communication.

This day is a global initiative to raise awareness about blindness and vision impairment.

It was founded in the year 2000 by the Lions Club International Foundation’s Sight First Campaign.

It is observed with the goal of bringing disability and blindness to the attention of the entire world.

In 1998, Lions Clubs International teamed with blindness presentation organizations to commemorate the first World Sight Day.

In News – Northern Ireland Protocol

The Northern Ireland protocol was designed to prevent checks across the border between Northern Ireland (US) and the Republic of Ireland (EU), following Brexit.

The Protocol came into force in the beginning of 2021.

It has resulted into disagreements between the UK and EU as it disrupted trade between Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

The UK government has been calling to rewrite the deal.

Under this protocol it was agreed that Northern Ireland will continue to follow EU rules on product standards in order to prevent checks across the border.

Goods entering Northern Ireland from Scotland, England or Wales would be inspected.

China sets up $233 million Kunming Biodiversity fund

China pledged to inject $233 million into a new fund called Kunming Fund for the protection of biodiversity in developing countries, recently.

This decision was taken during a key UN conservation summit, even though major donors disagreed on it.

China pledged as it the worlds biggest polluter and seeks to play a prominent role internationally on Biodiversity conservation.

The funding issue for the Kunming Biodiversity Fund will be taken up in January 2022 at negotiations in Geneva. Chinas pledge is below the $4 billion committed by Britain for conservation projects across the world as well as Frances commitment to spend 30 percent of its Climate finance on protection of biodiversity.
