Assam government has extended the management ofWest Assam Cooperative Milk Union(WAMUL) by the Anand-headquarteredNational Dairy Development Board(NDDB) for a period of another five years.

WAMUL was on verge of closure when NDDB took over its management in 2008. Keeping in view the effect of NDDBs intervention in restoring and reviving the cooperative institution, the State Government of Assam has approved another extension of NDDBs management of WAMUL.
An agreement to this effect was signed on Friday after Meenesh Shah, interim chairman of NDDB met Assam chief minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati.

WAMUL presently procures an Average daily quantity of 41,000 kg of milk from 13,916 dairy farmers. Brand Purabi markets around 64,000 litres of milk per day.
