Telanganastood third in India in the use of antibiotics, according to an international research report. Overuse or abuse of antibiotics has been linked to increased antimicrobial resistance. This has often resulted in the emergence of superbugs that do not respond to even tertiary antibiotics, say experts.
According to the report on annual consumption of antibiotics published in the latest issue of the scientific publication, Journal of Antimicrobial Resistance, recorded the third highest consumption of antibiotics in the country between 2011 and 2019. While Delhi stood first, Punjab occupied the second position.
