Power purchasearrears and operating expenses reached the Rs 32,000 crore mark in April 2019, up from Rs 12,500 crore in June 2014. Withdiscomsfacing a severe financial crisis, the came to their rescue and released Rs 28,166 crore to power companies between 2019-20 and 2020-21.
Of the total electricity subsidy arrears of Rs 13,388 crore as on March 31, 2019, the state government released Rs 11,442 crore between 2019 and 2021. It also provided Rs 16,724 crore forpower subsidyand other charges during the same period. Discoms paid Rs 64,007 crore towards power purchase costs.
