Dr. Ajit Sinha, Acting Director, Food Corporation of India, Eastern Zone, today said that in all five states that fall under the Eastern Region of the Food Corporation of India, the process of lifting and distributing the additional allocation for the pandemic period for beneficiaries of the National Food Security Act under the Prime Minister’s Garib Kalyan Yojana has begun.

Sinha stated that 32112 metric tonnes of rice and 107245 metric tonnes of wheat are being lifted for these five states, totaling 139357 metric tonnes of food grains.

It is worth mentioning that during the pandemic period, 5 kg food grains per person per month are to be given free of cost to Antyodaya Anna Yojana households. Sinha informed that the has accepted the challenge and has started the work of lifting rice and wheat in the states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa, from the central pool stock.
