IMEO launched at G20 summit

International Methane Emissions Observatory (IMEO) was launched at the Summit.

Highlights

The Methane Observatory was established to encourage people to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

It was started with the help of the European Union.
It was started since methane is one of the most hazardous gases for the Environment.

IMEO

IMEO will use satellites to track methane emissions.

The Observatory will compile a global dataset of empirically validated methane emissions for public use.

It will begin by focusing on the fossil fuel Industry, which accounts for one-third of all anthropogenic emissions. This industry offers the most potential for cost Savings.
