Chhattisgarhhas initiated the process for transforming the fair price shops across the state into sustainable and profitable model shops instead of letting them run on a commission basis.
If everything goes right, the fair price shops will start selling FMCG, grocery goods, Banking, postal and mobile recharging Services from fiscal 2023-24.

As many as 13655 ration shops are being operated across the state under the Public Distribution System and these shops only deal with rice,gramand salt. Once these shops are converted into model shops, they will be able to sell all kinds of grocery goods.
There are 72,58,241 ration card holders in the state and over 2.62 crore people are linked with these ration cards. In this way, a major chunk of consumers will be connected to the model ration shops.
