As part of united Andhra in 2014, Telangana had only 8.5 medical seats per lakh population, the minister said. Not just this, Telangana now has the second highest number of PG medical seats per lakh population.
When Telangana was formed eight years ago, there were only five medical colleges. Now, there are 17.”There were only 850 MBBS seats in government medical colleges before 2014.Now, the number has gone up to 2,890.
The closest rival is neighbouring Karnataka, which had 17.91 medical seats per lakh population, but with a higher seat number at 10,945. The Percentage-to-seat difference arises as Karnataka’s population is around 6.5 crore while Telangana’s is 3.5 crore.
