Four months ahead of assembly elections inChhattisgarh, chief ministerBhupesh Baghel has ordered to launch an extensive statewide public awareness de-addiction campaign. The announcement comes at a time when the rulingCongressis facing criticism over its unfulfilled 2018 poll manifesto that promised that the party will impose a ban on liquor when elected to power.

Substance abuse and addiction are pressing issues in the state that have been ruining lives, especially affecting the younger generation.

Amid the pressure of delivering 2018 poll promise, the chief minister has directed chief secretary to call for collaborations from social organisations and others fighting against addiction in the country.
Emphasizing over development of a detailed action plan following consultation with prominent figures and organizations actively involved in drug de-addiction efforts nationwide, chief minister directedSocial Welfare Departmentto present a comprehensive plan for de-addiction awareness campaign within one month.
